Upogebia pugetensis (mud shrimp)

Mud shrimp live in holes on muddy beaches. Holes are a foot deep. You have to dig to find a live one. As the tide goes out you can sometimes find the pale blue external skeletons of mud shrimp floating in seaweed. At the Cove a good time to look for these is after a storm. The exoskeleton below is faded. The blue color does not last long.
