Octopus rubescens (red octopus)

Found in area 5 to10.

The small red octopus common to Puget Sound can be found at the Cove at very low tides. It occupies the shells of large Polinices Lewisii (moon snail shells) when it wants to get away from it all, but you can sometimes find it in the eel grass. This one fell out of a moon snail shell when someone was picking it up. For a short time it sat in this bucket for examination before release back to the eelgrass environment.
