Lottia pelta (shield limpet)

Found in area 3 until the storm changed the beach in the 1990’s.  I'm not certain which year it was but it was probably winter of 1996 or 1997.

If the shell is striped imprecisely top to bottom with horizontal bands of light and dark areas, it’s probably Lottia pelta, the shield limpet.

Shield limpets are the most numerous limpets at the Cove. They are also the limpet with the most variation.
